Sports tourism pumps millions of dollars into local economies every year, including Gainesville’s. When the University of Florida Gators win, fans celebrate, and they spend big at restaurants and Gator merchandise stores.

Golfers and sponsors played a charity golf scramble on Friday to benefit The Arc of Alachua County.

Organizers of the 2025 World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships, which concluded Sunday afternoon, are calling the event a resounding success for Alachua County and the U.S. This was the first time in the event’s 20-plus year history that it was held in the United States.

Over 3,700 participants from 97 countries will flock to Gainesville to compete in the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships from March 23-30. The previous country attendance record was 89.
