Gainesville police request help in identifying Depot Park gunman

Law enforcement are still working to identify the man who shot a woman in the leg and stole her belongings in the Depot Park area. After a week of searching, they’re now asking for help from the community.

Police reported a woman being accosted by a young man while walking her dog at about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 24. The man, who wore a mask and a reflective safety vest, repeatedly demanded that she give him her backpack and fanny pack. When she refused, he shot her in the leg.

After being shot, the woman crawled to safety at a nearby business where she received assistance. Her dog was neither stolen nor injured during the robbery.

Anyone who can identify the man is asked to please make an anonymous tip to the Gainesville Police Department or Crimestoppers.
