Updated, 8:01 p.m.: The Gainesville Police Department shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday night captured armed bank robbery suspect William "Kyle" Rossignol following a high-speed chase and a six-hour search.
He was arrested on charges of armed robbery and other weapons-related charges, spokesman Ben Tobias said. "At 7:51pm," he wrote in an email, "GPD began to remove uniformed officers from their perimeter spots, but left undercover units in place. Just after uniformed officers left the area, Rossignol was spotted at the intersection of SW 31st Drive and 41st Place. He was arrested without incident.
Tobias had released this update at 7:33 p.m. Tuesday night prior to the capture:
GPD is in in the process of clearing the active scene around Lexington Crossings Apartments. Multiple K-9s from Gainesville PD, Alachua Sheriff, Florida Highway Patrol and bloodhounds from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office have conducted an extensive search from where the vehicle was left in Lexington. Helicopters from the Joint Aviation Unit have been in the air in rotating shifts since shortly after the vehicle pursuit. Teams of officers also conducted door-to-door searches through Lexington. Unfortunately the suspect has not been located. There is a possibility he had someone waiting in another vehicle in the area and fled before our perimeter was set up. The vehicle pursuit covered SW Archer Road, 34th Street, Williston Road among other roadways. The vehicle was traveling at such a high rate of speed that GPD officers were unable to safely pursue. Speeds of the suspect vehicle are estimated at over 100mph. Approximately 5-10 minutes after losing sight of the vehicle, it was located parked (not crashed as I initially thought) in Lexington. Investigators did recover a replica firearm that was apparently thrown from the vehicle, but other items in the car lead investigators to believe that he may still be armed with another gun. GPD Investigators are working some additional leads that may lead to smaller-scale searches throughout the night. Rossignol is the suspect, and it’s unknown what he is currently wearing. We have collected the shirt he was wearing during the robbery. GPD understands that hundreds of residents were inconvenienced by not being able to get to their homes, but we have to take every possible precaution to ensure the safety of everyone. When we have knowledge of an armed person in an area, it is our duty to do whatever we can to ensure safety. We do appreciate the patience shown by the residents. Anyone with information is urged to call GPD Dispatch at 955-1818 with any information. You can also provide anonymous information by texting keyword GPDFL plus your tip to 274637. If you SEE Rossignol, call 911.
