The Gainesville City Commission selected Anthony Lyons as its new city manager today, bringing to an end the months-long search process that followed the November 2015 resignation of Russ Blackburn after his 10 years in the post. Lyons, who has served as interim city manager since Blackburn's resignation, was chosen from 95 initial applicants and five finalists.

The University of Florida hosted the world's first brain-drone race on Saturday. Brain-drones are drones that are controlled by wearing a brain-computer interface device that is connected to a computer.

City commissions will interview the six finalists on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the City Hall Auditorium.

Alachua and Marion counties had the fewest number of pedestrian accidents — when bicycle accidents are added in — from 2010 to 2014 for Florida counties with more than 200,001 residents.

The plant will replace two 1960s-era coal-fired plants and will start putting out energy to customers in 2018.

The University of Florida's Gatorloop team have made it into the final round to test their hyperloop, a high-speed transportation design. Gatorloop is one of the first ones who began creating the hyperloop.

Soon a paved path will run through one of the forests on the University of Florida's campus.

The University of Florida wakeboard team hosted the USA Wakeboard Southeast Regionals. Seven UF students will compete at nationals: Heather Bouchard, Will Green, Jon Kistemaker, Marcus Knox, Alex Montgomery, Dixie Smith and Freddie Wayne.
