On Wednesday, Alachua Elementary School, W.W. Irby Elementary School and A.L. Marcel "Butch" Verrando, an appointee to the Industrial Development Authority, has been removed from the board after a racially-charged Facebook post. Verrando was removed after a regularly scheduled meeting on May 19.

Yowab Ben-Israel has been charged with robbing the 1401 N. Main Street post office on Tuesday and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police said Ben-Israel was injured by police gunfire after he pulled and pointed a gun at two responding deputies.
