Archer Road Motorcycle Crash Leaves Rider In Critical Condition

Updated at 3:55pm

A motorcycle crash at 11:45 a.m. today on SW Archer Road and Newell Drive left rider, Joe Steven Vincent Wagner, in critical condition, according to a statement by Gainesville Police Department.

The crash occurred as a Buick sedan driven by Glory Edith Jackson of Starke made a left turn onto Newell Drive and hit the Orange Kawasaki motorcycle. According to the initial investigation by GPD, speeding didn't cause the accident. Wagner, a University of Florida student, was not wearing a helmet, according to GPD.

Because the crash happened close to UF Health's Trauma center, an emergency room doctor, who was outside, provided aid until an ambulance arrived. Roads were closed, but reopened at 1:40 p.m.

GPD is conducting a Traffic Homicide Investigation because of the severity of the crash, which can take up to six months to complete.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
