Authorities charged a Middleburg man with attempted murder after a person was shot in the leg at the man’s house Sunday.
George R. King, 64, was hosting a party with trucks mudding in his backyard Sunday when several fights broke out among the more than 50 people attending, according to King’s arrest report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
During the fighting, King came out of his house and shot a warning shot with a shotgun, the report says. Attendees then rushed to their vehicles and left the party.
But as they left, King continued to shoot at them, the report says. During this, one person was shot in the leg.
Separately, the last vehicle to leave the property was shot at least once through the passenger side, the report says. No one was injured in that vehicle.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, King was also charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The attempted murder charge resulted in him not receiving a bond.
Calls by WUFT News to the sheriff’s office spokesperson were not immediately returned.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said today on its website.
