The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners struggled to maintain a united front on Friday afternoon as a collegial conversation about their emergency stay-at-home order at times turned into a heated debate.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Alachua County remained at 37, with only eight counties across the state having more, according to the Florida Department of Health.

The Alachua County Commissioners on Tuesday appointed a new member to the charter review commission, replacing a disgruntled one who resigned abruptly last week.

Alachua County voters will not get to decide in this year’s general election whether the county commission should have single-member district representation, after the Alachua County Charter Review Commission decided Wednesday to not support the idea.
