Voter guide: Dixie, Gilchrist and Lafayette counties' 2022 election races

Dixie County

All three candidates are lifelong residents of Dixie County vying for the District 2 Commission seat. Keith Tuten, a write-in candidate, will not appear on the ballot; his supporters must write his name on the ballot to vote for him.

When is early voting?

Early voting will take place from Thursday, Oct. 27 to Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but on Sundays, polls close earlier at 4 p.m. All early voting is held at the Dixie County Supervisor of Elections Office.

How do I vote on election day?

On Nov. 8, polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. To vote, bring a valid form of identification to your assigned precinct. The Dixie County Supervisor of Elections website has a precinct-finder tool to help voters know where to go on election day.

Can I still register to vote?

The deadline to register to vote in the state of Florida is 29 days before every election. It is too late to register for the Nov. 8 general election, but voter registration is still open for future elections for those who are:


  • 18 years of age
  • citizens of the United States
  • legal residents of Florida
  • legal residents of the county in which they will vote

Gilchrist County

Candidates in the November 2022 Gilchrist County Commissioner District 4 race. Langford served as county commissioner for a decade in the early 2000s and has owned a successful business for 42 years. He has also served as chairman of the Republican Executive Committee of Gilchrist County for 18 years. The candidate acknowledges the county's growth and is running for office to help manage it.

Philman, 68, has lived in Gilchrist County for over 40 years. He served as a county commissioner from 1988 until 1992 but did not seek re-election for personal reasons. Philman wrote in his candidate statement that he would like to watch his county grow in jobs and businesses while still prioritizing agriculture and the "small-town feeling."

Early voting will take place from Saturday, Oct. 29 to Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but on Sunday, Oct. 30, early voting is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All early voting is held at the courthouse at 122 S. Main St., Room 137.

Lafayette County

Mary Anne Koon McCray — not to be confused with her incumbent opponent, Marion McCray — is hoping her 36 yearlong experience as an English teacher will give her an edge in the upcoming race.  Though she is now retired, she tutors and recently renewed her teaching certificate.
