• WUFT News: Micanopy Residents Protest The Building Of A Dollar General Near A Native American Burial Mound. "The Alachua County Development Review Committee voted to approve the Final Development Plan for the Dollar General Sept. 9, causing debate among Micanopy residents. However, a case between Concept Companies, Inc., the project’s developer, and Alachua County is ongoing, according to court documents filed the same day. Concept Companies is asking for review of the Board of County Commissioners’ Aug. 10 decision denying the developer’s Scenic Road Variance Request, according to a petition for writ of certiorari filed on its behalf. The board voted to give Tuscawilla Road a scenic designation April 27, which put a truck weight limit of 50,000 pounds in place."

• Associated Press: Citrus High School Football Player Collapses, Dies During Practice. "The player was taken Tuesday evening to Citrus Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to a statement posted on Twitter by Citrus High School Principal Laura Mason."

• WUFT News: Alachua County Library District Saw A Surge In Card Sign-Ups In The First Half Of September. "Last year’s Library Card Sign-Up Month saw a decrease in participation. With the pandemic in full force, many people weren’t as motivated to become a new library cardholder. District spokesperson Rachel Cook said the first half of September brought in more than 430 new card sign-ups, up from 187 in the same time period in 2020."

• WJCT: Duval School Board Authorizes Legal Action Against Florida Department of Health. "Duval County Public School board members authorized the district’s legal team to sue the Florida Department of Health over an emergency rule requiring school districts to allow parents to opt their kids out of mask mandates and quarantine requirements in a 4 to 3 vote Tuesday."

• Fresh Take Florida: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Orders Investigation Into Facebook Over Elections, Advancing His Political Criticism Of ‘Big Tech’ Companies. "DeSantis this week instructed Laurel Lee, Florida’s Republican secretary of state, to investigate whether Facebook exempted some of its users from the platform’s own rules, allowing them to post content that would otherwise be blocked or labeled as false."

• Florida Politics: New ‘public safety czar’ position pays six figures. "Taxpayers will pay Larry Keefe — a former Trump-nominated U.S. Attorney — a $125,000 salary in his new role as 'Public Safety Czar.' DeSantis announced the appointment Tuesday as part of a three-pronged strategy to combat President Joe Biden’s 'open border' policies."

• Florida Storms: Sam Will Kick Up Florida's Surf While Well Offshore As A New Depression Forms. "Hurricane Sam is near its closest approach to the Caribbean; it's about 450 miles east of the Leeward Islands. It's expected to miss those islands and turn northward on Friday and then northeast a couple hundred miles to the east of Bermuda on Saturday. Swells from Sam will gradually reach the Atlantic coastline from the Carolinas to Florida Thursday and Friday, then peak on Saturday. The swell will continue on Sunday, but gradually diminish early next week."
