Technical Academies Will Open in Marion County to Meet Industry Demands

As new businesses open in Marion county, such as a FedEx hub and an Auto Zone on the way, firms are looking for potential employees with logistics training and certifications.

To meet this demand, and due to the success seen by Marion Technical Institute's logistics program, new academies will open at Lake Weir High School and West Port High School to train students in the logistics and expertise needed.

Some of the skills that students learn is how to operate fork lifts and manage inventory.

"When you come out with a high school diploma, that really just says, 'Here's what I've done,'" said Mark Vianello, MTI Executive Director. "With an industry certification, it shows the business world, 'Here's what I can do.'"
