Brazilian Protests Get Support from UF Students

Brazilian students at the University of Florida are supporting protests against the way the budget in Brazil is being spent.

President of the Brazilian Student Association (BRASA) Matheus Baseggio said around 90 people came together to show their support. Members of BRASA have also been using social media to share images from the event.

"We got together in front of the stadium, we painted our faces, we had posters, and we took a picture to send to Brazil. This picture actually, was posted on a Brazilian website."

Lecturer in Latin American Studies Jonathan Dain said these protests are embarrassing for a country which is about to host the World Cup and 2016 Olympics.

"This began with a raise in bus fare, but it's really morphed into an expression of anger and frustration over economic inequality in Brazil," said Dain.

Atlhough the  bus fare hike  has already been lowered, the protests have continued. Baseggio said that so far there are no plans for another event but they will continue to monitor things in Brazil.
