• WUSF: Tropical Storm Eta Makes Landfall, But Tampa Bay Impacts Still Being Felt. "Ray Hawthorne, meteorologist with the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network, said occasional rain bands are likely to produce tropical storm-force wind gusts Thursday morning over the peninsula."

• WUFT News: Marion County High School Students Will Learn Construction On The Job While Helping Habitat For Humanity. "An agreement with Habitat for Humanity of Marion County will allow high school students enrolled in construction programs to build Habitat for Humanity homes."

• WUFT News: Positive COVID-19 Test Forces PK Yonge Football Team To Forfeit Playoff Game. "The PK Yonge football team was looking forward to its first playoff game in two years, but the school had to forfeit Friday’s game due to a positive COVID-19 test from someone in close contact with the team."

• WLRN: The Public Has A Right To Weigh In At Government Meetings. Does Playing Voicemails All Night Cut It? "In late September, when the Miami-Dade County School Board was facing a difficult decision about reopening classrooms during the pandemic, the public was offered an unusual way to weigh in: voicemail. Nearly 800 people called ahead of the board’s Sept. 21 virtual meeting and their messages added up to 18 hours. The board decided to stream the voicemails overnight."

• Lakeland Ledger ($): Police: Former city commissioner, husband killed in Lakeland home. "Several Lakeland Police Department homicide detectives on Wednesday morning gathered together and walked into the Lake Morton Drive home of David Henderson, 63, and Edith Henderson, 67 — better known locally as Edie Yates, a Lakeland city commissioner from 2006 until the beginning of 2018. LPD officials confirmed their identities as the victims of Tuesday night's double homicide in the historic neighborhood."

• Bradenton Herald ($): Racism is now a public health crisis in Manatee. Some officials took that personally. "Not everyone supported the wording of the proclamation. In a rare move, Commissioner Vanessa Baugh and Steve Jonsson voted against accepting the proclamation Tuesday morning, citing concerns about the wording. 'The way I read it, it came out as this group here, we’re all a bunch of racists. As leaders, we’re not doing enough or all you need, and I take exception to that,' Jonsson explained."

• WUWF: Pensacola Mayor Declares State of Emergency for COVID-19 Hike. "President Trump held a campaign rally in Pensacola about two weeks ago, with reportedly little, if any, face coverings and no social distancing. (Mayor Grover) Robinson was asked if he thought the Trump rally contributed to the uptick in COVID hospitalizations. He made no comment on that, but did say there have been other high-attendance events."

• WMFE: There’s A New Mode of Mass Transportation Coming to Central Florida in 2025, And It Looks Like Something Out of Star Trek. "The aircraft, which is made by Munich-based company Lilium, will be able to ferry 20 million Floridians in a year to destinations within a 186 mile radius of the Lake Nona landing pad or vertiport."
