• Florida Phoenix: College kids be prepared: ‘The traditional campus experience for students will be different from past years.’ "The Florida Board of Governors released safety guidelines in the draft, calling the document, 'State University System of Florida Blueprint for Reopening Campuses.' The document will be considered for approval at Thursday’s board meeting."

• Orlando Sentinel ($): Florida to award $265 M in extra performance money to universities. "Florida intends to distribute $265 million in 'performance-based funding' to the state’s public universities based on measures like graduation rates; net tuition and fees; and the median wages of their alumni. The University of Florida is slated to receive the biggest award at $47.7 million."

• WUFT News: Ocala Begins Second Phase Of Reopening City Offices. "Part of the first phase of Florida’s reopening came over the past 10 days, as local governments like Ocala’s began to reopen city offices."

• Gainesville Sun ($): Some push for pause on school land purchase. "Since the Alachua County school board narrowly agreed two weeks ago to pursue buying a property in Jonesville for more than $3 million, some members of the public are hoping to pause the deal. Parents, educators and even some board members are looking to pump the brakes on the purchase, questioning the board’s choice to spend more than $3.68 million on the 37-acre property during a health pandemic that’s made the local economy’s future uncertain."

• Citrus County Chronicle: County reopens parks, ballfields. "Youth and adult teams are limited to practices only. No games will be permitted at this time. Dugouts and concession stands will be closed until further notice."

• WMFE: Here’s What Might Happen to Empty Lucky’s Market, Earth Fare Grocery Stores in Florida. "Southeastern Grocers says it has purchased eight former Lucky’s Market and Earth Fare grocery stores in Florida. The company plans to turn those locations into Winn-Dixies by the end of the year."

• Fresh Take Florida: Florida Governor Schedules First Cabinet Meeting Since Pandemic. "Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has downplayed the importance since last year of formal meetings with the state’s top elected officials, is scheduled to conduct his first Cabinet meeting Thursday since COVID-19 became a crisis. Democrats have cited the lack of meetings among the Cabinet during the virus emergency to dig at the Republican governor."

• Florida Today ($): Space-loving crowds arrive early despite downpours — and cheer in spite of disappointment. "Crowds, along with heavy rain, poured into coveted viewing spots across Brevard before the eventual scrub of the mission scant minutes before the scheduled 4:33 p.m. launch."

• NPR News: Disney World And Other Florida Theme Parks Outline Reopening Plans. "Several theme parks in Florida will open their doors to guests again over the next few weeks and have crafted plans they hope will keep employees and others safe from spread of the coronavirus."

• Tallahassee Democrat ($): What we know about every officer-involved shooting in Tallahassee so far this year. "The officer-involved shooting on Wednesday, May 27, is the third such shooting in the city in 2020. The city had previously had no officer-involved shootings since 2018. Each of the three officer-involved shootings in 2020 has resulted in the death of a suspect."

• Miami Herald ($): ICE admits to transferring detainees with COVID-19, says it can’t test everybody. "Instead, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it is only testing people who have symptoms — a protocol that has led the agency to transfer detainees who are asymptomatic but still carry the virus."

• Sun Sentinel ($): Florida doctors gearing up for more cases of children’s illness linked to coronavirus. "The illness, in which multiple body parts — the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, gastrointestinal tract, skin or eyes — can become inflamed, has cropped up children and young adults under the age of 21. New York City has reported 147 children with the condition. The syndrome, known as MIS-C, has made its way into Florida with seven confirmed cases, and medical experts expect more."

• Tampa Bay Times ($): Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has voted by mail 11 times in 10 years. "In fact, the Tampa native has voted by mail in every Florida election she has participated in since 2010, according to a Tampa Bay Times review of her voting history. Most recently, she voted by mail in the state’s March 2020 presidential primary, just as Trump did after he made Florida his new permanent home."

• Daytona Beach News-Journal ($): 6 youth, 4 staff test positive for coronavirus at Volusia juvenile detention facility. "The Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center has stopped accepting juveniles after six young inmates, the second most in the state among juvenile facilities, tested positive for the coronavirus."
