Gulf Breeze state representative dies

State Rep. Clay Ford (R-District 2) died Tuesday, House Speaker Will Weatherford said.

A resident of Gulf Breeze, Ford was elected to the Florida House of Representatives on February 27, 2007, according to the House website. He was the chair of the Energy & Utilities Subcommittee and also sat on the Judiciary Committee, the Regulatory Affairs Committee and the Rules & Calendar Committee.

Ford served in the Gulf Breeze City Council from 1990 to 2007. Born in Wynne, Ark., he was previously a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1975 to 1976.

Ford had cancer, according to a news release from the Florida News Service.
