1 Dead In Silver Springs Shores Shooting

Marion County authorities are investigating a shooting from early this morning that left one man dead.

The man, 26-year-old Jeffery Todd Aaron Jr., was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center by the woman who called 911, and he died there from his injuries, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched about 2:15 a.m. to a home on Pine Course Loop in Silver Springs Shores, the release said. The shooting took place at the edge of the home's driveway.

A 6-year-old boy was found alone inside the home.

The sheriff's office wasn't immediately able to release any further details.

“We’re still processing the scene,” office spokeswoman Lauren Lettelier told WUFT News. “We’ll release what we can when we can.”

Marion County has had six homicides so far this year, and it had 16 in 2016, Lettelier said.

This story has been updated to include the number of Marion County homicides from 2016 and 2017.
