Alachua County Sheriff's Office Educating Residents On Self Defense

Deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spoke at the Alachua County Commission meeting on Tuesday about self-defense tactics for citizens, both at home and around the community.

“Instead of ‘stranger danger,’ we teach them ‘good person/bad person,’” Deputy Cary Gallop said. “They might have to come to a stranger if they can identify that stranger as a good person.”

The ASCO said citizens can best stay safe by avoiding going anywhere alone and keeping a fully charged cell phone on them at all times. The department also offer programs in rape aggression defense and child safety.
