A teenager was shot in the face by another teen Sunday night in Gainesville after the two got into an argument, police said.

Austin Gregory Dow, 17, was charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder after allegedly shooting a 15-year-old in the face at the Kanapaha Station shopping plaza off Archer Road east of Tower Road, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

The three counts come from two other people being in a car with the 15-year-old. The other two weren't injured.

As of Monday morning, the 15-year-old was in stable condition at UF Health Shands Hospital and had no other wounds, said Art Forgey, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

Dow was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Gainesville and remained there Monday on a $450,000 bond.

He's set to appear in court on Tuesday, Forgey said, and it will be decided then if he will be tried as an adult or as a juvenile.

Other than the argument, the motive is uncertain, he said.

“The detectives are still working on what the motive is," Forgey said. "What the exact dispute is over, we aren't certain yet."

The area around Kanapaha Station is not a common place for a shooting to occur, he said.

“Any time we respond to a shooting ... it’s very serious," Forgey told WUFT News. "We take it seriously."
