The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office has completed its investigation regarding officer Hamza Amer, who was charged with a DUI earlier this year.
Amer, who was hired by the ACSO on September 28, 2015, and assigned the position of detention officer, was found unresponsive behind the wheel of his vehicle on January 30 of this year.
After Amer was taken into custody and a breath test confirmed him to be above the legal limit, sheriff's office spokesman Brandon Kutner said he was put on an 8-day suspension with 12 months of disciplinary action.
Amer pleaded no contest on April 4th to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was sentenced to 50 hours of community service, as well as a fine of $500. Amer has completed a substance abuse program but lost his state vehicle privileges.
