Silver Springs man involved in fatal crash with deputy

Authorities say a Marion County man was being pursued in a high speed chase that took them four counties, before he was stopped. In the chase, Hernando County deputy John Mecklenburg was killed when he lost control of his vehicle, as it crashed into a tree in Pasco County. Michael James Anthony, 35, of Silver Springs, was stopped in Pinellas County, where he surrendered. He faces multiple charges. The chase started in Brooksville. A second deputy received minor injuries when his car collided with a pick up truck and utility pole.
