Today’s episode features Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jack Davis, the keynote speaker for the 2024 Sunshine State Book Festival. Davis discusses his writing and research process and his latest book The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America’s Bird. Davis is a professor of history at the University of Florida. He holds the Rothman Family Endowed Chair in the Humanities and teaches environmental history and sustainability studies at UF. He is the author and editor of ten books, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea.
The Sunshine State Book Festival, on Jan. 26 and 27, will bring together booklovers of all ages and 200 authors across 15 genres to the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center. The 2024 theme is Freedom to Read and features Davis’ keynote, a live production of the literary program “A Conversation with Frederick Douglass” featuring Alachua County Poet Laureate E. Stanley Richardson, guest panelists and an award presentation of scholarships sponsored by the Steve Spurrier HBC Foundation. The event is free and open to the public.
