Citizens Co-Op gives real opportunity to buy local

Citizens co-op opened its doors to the public in Gainesville last Friday at 435 South Main Street. The co-op raised over 250-thousand dollars over the last three years to fund the store’s opening. They specialize in organic, non-GM local produce, but also stock other types of food you can find at your local supermarket. Co-founder of Citizens Co-op Gretchen McIntrye says buying local is important, and helps sustain local business…but is not the only way to be energy efficient and reduce our carbon footprint.
