Florida's 89.1 WUFT-FM Morning Edition host, Glenn Richards, spoke with Brian Hiebel, singer and founding member of the Gainesville rocksteady ska group, The Duppies, and Jason Hedges, leader of the bands HEDGES and Heavy Petty.
Both bands are making their first appearance at WUFT's annual Fanfares & Fireworks at the UF Bandshell at Flavet Field.
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with music by Bears & Lions (returning for their third year), followed by The Duppies around 7:00 p.m., Hedges (with some Heavy Petty) around 8:00 p.m., and as always, wrapping up the event with the Gainesville Community Band under the direction of Gary Langford at 9:00 p.m., followed by a spectacular fireworks show (around 9:40 p.m.).
Food trucks scheduled include: o PDQ o Humble Pie ( Humble Wood Fire) o Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops o Cilantro Tacos Gville o Big Island Bowls Gainesville LifeSouth Blood Center will be conducting a blood drive. For safety reasons, no dogs, sparklers or alcohol are allowed at the event. Coolers are allowed, but may be subject to search by the University of Florida Police Department.
