Efforts to keep students safe in light of a recent kidnapping at Santa Fe College may lead to permanent changes to safety procedures on campus. SFC General Counsel Patti Locascio says they are considering more lighting, as a start.

She says they are currently supporting the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and University of Florida Police Department in their investigation to find the man responsible. To her knowledge this is the first time SFC has invoked a mutual aid agreement past immediate emergency situations.

She says police are still on campus distributing information to keep students aware and safe until the suspect is apprehended.

Though the electronic message boards will be taken down after the suspect is caught, the increased lighting around campus will remain. Locascio says it's important that students are aware of the dangers around campus and that they use these amplified measures to stay safe in the future.
