The Jasper Police Department lost its chief following a fiery crash late Sunday night.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Chief Anthony Rickerson’s vehicle struck a deer at County Road 143 and SW 28th Lane at 10:25 pm.
The vehicle swerved off the road, collided with a tree and then caught fire, according to the FHP Press release.
Rickerson was found dead at the scene.
According to the Jasper Police Department, Rickerson had been on the force for 12 years.
He was 43 years old.
