UF veterinary oncologist works to take medicine to new heights with melanoma vaccine, model airplane hobby

From an early age in South Africa, Rowan Miller has considered model airplanes his go-to pastime.

At the same time, Miller, the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine’s small animal clinical sciences director, has been on a quest to develop a vaccine proven to extend and even cure the lives of some dogs with melanoma.

His hope is to eventually expand this technology for children with cancer, applying what's known as the "one medicine" concept.
