The University of Florida School of Music is pushing a dual major program to boost the declining music major enrollment. Admissions Director Mutlu Citim-Kepic says this option can appeal to students and their families who don't think a degree in just music is worth it.

She says making the push for students is especially important now, with the Governor looking to shift funding to more science and math based majors. Music major Daniel Sepulveda is on the pre-med track, and thinks balance is important in education, but the Governor’s action would contradict that.

About half of music majors are pursuing a dual program, called “Bachelors in Music in combination with an outside field”, often with business or pre-med.
