Santa Fe Teaching Zoo encourages eco-friendly halloween candy

Officials at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo are encouraging people to make a difference for wildlife this halloween.

Halloween candy includes palm oil, often cited as a cause of irreparable environmental damage, but zoo officials say you should look for companies using sustainable palm oil in their candies. The promotion is part of Santa Fe's annual Boo at the Zoo event.

Santa Fe lists the following candies for their use of sustainable palm oil.

  • Nestle's Baby Ruth, Butterfinger and Crunch Bar
  • Wonka's SweeTarts, Laffy Taffy, Nerds and Pixy Stix
  • Kellogg's Rice Krispies
