Prayer breakfast commemorates struggle for justice

In its fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast this morning, the MLK Commission of Florida and African American Accountability Alliance remembered the battle for social justice. Commission Interim Chaplain Kevin Thorpe says society has made progress towards equality, but is not there yet.

“Unfortunately, we still don’t live in a perfect world, and many of the injustices that Dr. King Stood against are still present in 2011. In some segments you would wonder if time has marched on at all,” he says.

Thorpe says the Commission will continue to commemorate King and his struggle as long as the community supports it. He says it’s important to give back to the community you live in and keep society moving forward.
