As Halloween approaches, so do efforts by local law enforcement to ensure the safety of every citizen.
The Ocala Police Department started a Halloween DUI campaign on Oct. 25, which runs through Nov. 4.
"Lots of people get together, and they have parties," said Ocala Police Department Spokesman Chas Maier. "Sometimes there's drinking, and we just want to encourage everybody to be safe."
Maier suggested assigning a designated driver ahead of time and to "plan a safe way home before the festivities begin."
In Gainesville, you might see a couple of "Trunk or Treat" events held by the Gainesville Police Department in neighborhoods.
Police officers will hand out candy to children, so that their parents can "rest assured knowing that the police department has inspected the candy," said Ben Tobias, the spokesman for GPD.
GPD will also do "enhanced sexual predator and sexual offender checks, just to make sure everyone is in compliance with the terms of their probation," Tobias said.
Local law enforcement agencies want to make sure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween experience.
