Two suspended UF football players appeared in court Monday, after nine of the players were accused of making purchases with stolen cards in September.
Running Back Jordan Scarlett and Wide Receiver Rick Wells were the first two players to stand before a judge for credit card fraud. Alachua County Circuit Court Judge Mark Moseley approved pretrial intervention after it was offered by the prosecution.
A judge has to approve pretrial intervention, but it could help the two players avoid criminal convictions.
Mark Moseley approved pretrial intervention for these two players who are now on a 12-month probation period, where they are responsible for a $200 state attorney fee and 50 community service hours.
If the players, who faced third-degree felony charges, do not meet the requirements, Judge Mosely said incarceration is more likely than probation.
Scarlett's attorney declined to comment. Well's attorney said Wells is happy to put this matter behind him.
Only two of the players out of the nine accused have been offered pretrial intervention. Additional hearings will be held throughout the month.
