Gainesville Police Department Chief Tony Jones held a press conference Wednesday to address an increase in reported gun violence this year.
GPD reports there have been 24 gun violence incidents in Gainesville in 2019, up six from this time last year.
Jones said law enforcement officials are working to stop gun violence, but they need the public's help.
"We have to involve the citizens of Gainesville," Jones said.

Citizens are encouraged to call 352-955-1818 if they see anything out of the ordinary. Jones said plans to work with both the U.S. Attorney's Office and State Attorney's Office, as well as the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, to control the number of incidents in the city.
