Investigation continues into shooting death in Clay County meth lab bust

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now involved in the investigation of a fatal methamphetamine lab bust in which a detective was killed. Florida Department of Law Enforcement Communications Coordinator Keith Kameg says the FDLE is providing support on various levels.

He expects the investigation will take some time, and will be thorough.

Detective David White was shot during the meth lab bust yesterday night. Clay County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard escored the body of detective to the medical examiner's office in Jacksonville. He was a nine year veteran of the sheriff's office. He leaves a wife and two children.

The viewing for officer White will be this Sunday, February 19th, from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Russell Haven of Rest Funeral Home at 2335 Sandridge Rd., Green Cove Springs.  The funeral service will be on Monday, February 20th at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Middleburg, 2645 Blanding Blvd., in Middleburg.  Donations are being accepted for Detective White's widow and children through the Clay County Sheriff's Office Deputies Humanitarian Fund at Heritage Bank in Orange Park.

Meanwhile, in honor of CCSO Detective David White, Governor Rick Scott has requested that the state flag be lowered to half-staff at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Green Cove Springs city hall, and the Clay County courthouse on February 20, 2012, from sunrise to sunset.
