The holiday season may bring an increase in crime for the Gainesville area. Gainesville Police Department Corporal Angelina Valuri says the department is stepping up patrol to act against criminals who take advantage of people going out of town.

Valuri says GPD is especially keeping an eye out for suspicious activity in areas that are heavily populated by students, because those are the most vulnerable at this time.
