Gainesville City Commission To Host Town Hall Meeting Wednesday

Over the past few days, Gainesville City Commissioners have been hosting one-on-one events for residents to meet and talk with them, leading up to a town hall meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. that will take place at Ironwood Golf Course at 2100 NE 39 Ave.

City Commissioner Gigi Simmons said they wants to let citizens know that the commissioners hear them and are listening to the community's concerns and feedback.

"We want to be more engaged," Simmons said. "We want to be an ear."

Topics to be covered at the town hall meeting will include crime, housing and equality in Gainesville.

Kathleen Doe attended one of the meetings on behalf of DREAM Defenders.

"I wanted to learn a little bit more about what I could be doing, how I could have input and make changes from within," Doe said. "We have to be the voices to advocate for the things that we want."

Simmons said she hopes the opportunity will help members of the community feel more connected to city officials.

Comments and questions can be submitted to the city's website prior to the town hall meeting.
