Some smoke present as fire conditions worsen

Taylor and Dixie County drivers may see some smoke this morning from a number of fires recently contained.  Perry District Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Chelsea Parker says the very dry weather conditions mean the risk of fire will continue to heighten.  She says the dangerous conditions lead them to carefully assess burning restrictions every morning.

She says whether from small burns or larger fires, people need to take precaution against the smoky conditions.

Madison, Taylor and Lafayette counties are all experiencing moderate drought conditions, but Dixie County’s rating is severe.  Parker says fires have a lot of fuel because of this lack of rain and recent freezes, so any fire must be closely monitored.
