Chance Wolf will receive his undergraduate degree, a bachelor's in communication, posthumously from the University of Florida.
David Ostroff, professor and chair in the university's Department of Telecommunications, said Thursday that Diane McFarlin, dean of the College of Journalism and Communications, proposed the idea. The dean, faculty members and the provost approved it unanimously.
A memorial service for Wolf took place Thursday afternoon at the Harn Museum of Art on UF's campus. About 70 people attended, Ostroff said.
President Kent Fuchs spoke at the service, as did McFarlin, Vice President of Student Affairs David Kratzer and telecommunications Professor Tim Sorel.
Also in attendance: Wolf’s mother, grandmother, uncle, friends, UF club hockey players and members of Wolf's fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau.
Wolf, a hockey player, was also remembered at the Feb. 4 Florida Panthers game.
Wolf, 20, died Jan. 31 after falling from the sixth floor of the newly completed Social 28 apartments across 13th Street from UF's campus. He was from Weston.
