From Workforce Connection
(OCALA, FL) – Workforce Connection is postponing the Job Fair scheduled for Thursday, June 28 due to threat of Tropical Storm Debby moving through the area.
Workforce Connection CEO Rusty Skinner announced Monday that the Job Fair will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Monitoring the storm’s unpredictable track, Skinner said the latest and most reliable information indicates it will cut across Florida between Gainesville and north of Orlando, putting Ocala right in its path.
"The safety of those planning to attend the job fair, both job seekers and employers, is our paramount concern," Skinner said. "Debby may go a different direction, but in an abundance of caution, we need to get the word out now; we don’t want people showing up when it has been postponed and more importantly, we don’t want people putting themselves at risk."
The Job Fair was slated to take place at the College of Central Florida’s Klein Conference Center in Ocala.
In addition to the Job Fair, Workforce Connection’s Skills Gap Forums set for Thursday, June 28 at CF’s Citrus Campus in Lecanto and Friday, June 29 at CF’s Ocala Campus will also be rescheduled. Skinner noted that the decision to reschedule the Skills Gap Forums was made after consulting with Workforce Connection’s economic development and education partners.
At this time there are no plans to close the resource centers in Chiefland, Inverness and Ocala. However, Skinner said that could change depending on the storm.
"We are being guided by county emergency management decisions and should governmental offices close, we would close as well," Skinner said.
