• WUFT News: Marion and Levy counties join Citrus County in cries for help after severe flooding. "Brown water sloshes up against the tires of Dunnellon resident Tony Rosado’s truck as he drives down his neighborhood road. He opens the vehicle door to check the depth. The road beneath is barely visible. Even after the August rains subsided, the water on the road remains. Rosado and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Dunnellon almost three years ago. Cheryl Rosado said they were never told about the flooding."
• News Service of Florida: The State Board of Education will consider a cease-and-desist complaint filed by federal education leaders. "The State Board of Education has scheduled a meeting next week to consider a U.S. Department of Education complaint seeking to prevent Florida from withholding funds from school districts that received federal money to cover school board members’ salaries."
• Spectrum News: Federal dollars coming to Florida for road fixes. "Much of this funding will come over the span of five years. According to the White House, there are 408 bridges and more than 3,564 miles of highway in poor condition across Florida."
• Associated Press: From ground to sky, US condo collapse probe gaining steam. "Armed with $22 million in supplemental funding from Congress, NIST has created six separate teams of experts to examine various aspects of the Champlain Towers collapse, said NIST investigation team leader Judith Mitrani-Reiser. These include efforts to figure out how the building was initially designed, what changes were made and what deteriorated; what data was collected by aerial drones and remote sensors; inspection of hundreds of pieces of rubble for structural failure clues; and whether soils, underground rock or vibrations from nearby construction may have played a role."
• Mainstreet Daily News: Newberry to buy 93 acres for wastewater facility. "In a unanimous vote Monday night, the commission agreed to spend $1,167,500 on the acquisition that will help answer the state's requirement that Newberry expand its wastewater capacity."
• WUFT News: See the data: Florida COVID-19 vaccination, infection rates. "Although rules changed on Oct. 29 to allow children ages 5 to 11 to receive the vaccine, the state’s weekly COVID-19 situation report does not yet reflect vaccination rates of this age group. These data summarize Florida residents 12 and older who have completed all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. See where your county stands."
• Gainesville Sun ($): With parking near UF tight, Gainesville considers lifting limits at The Standard. "Some of the spaces in the multi-story parking garage at The Standard apartments by the University of Florida could be open to the general public under a proposal being put forth by Gainesville City Commissioner Adrian Hayes-Santos. The City Commission will discuss his idea at its Nov. 18 meeting."
• WUFT News: Gainesville’s live theaters are casting nontraditional actors for famous roles, bringing a fresh perspective into the spotlight. "While some people of color, members of the LGBTQ community and women have avoided auditions for shows known to be cast in specific ways, the trend of nontraditional theater casting has opened new opportunities for them."
• WMFE: As US border reopens, Canadian snowbirds hurry back to The Villages. "The Canadians’ club in The Villages — The Loonies and Toonies — has been out of commission for a year and a half. Most of its 600 members were stuck in Canada, though some flew south and had their cars shipped or just used their golf carts."
• Bradenton Herald ($): Parrish man in viral Capitol riot photo with Pelosi’s lectern is set to take a plea deal. "(Adam) Johnson, 36, was identified within hours of the insurrection by Manatee County residents on social media, after chief Getty Images photographer Win McNamee captured Johnson waving and smiling as he walked out of the House chambers with Pelosi’s lectern and the photo went viral. His identity was also reported in tips to the FBI."
