A former inmate at St. Johns Youth Academy was arrested after impersonating a law enforcement officer.
According to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office press release, Christopher Leon Levins of Gainesville was arrested Saturday evening on charges of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a counterfeit drivers’ license, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
The 18-year-old man claimed to work for the Department of Homeland Security when he arrived at St. Johns Youth Academy in a pickup truck equipped with emergency lights and a siren. The suspect wore a grey polo shirt with a Homeland Security emblem and was in possession of a Homeland Security badge and a holstered gun at the time.
St. Augustine Beach Police located the suspect at a St. Augustine Beach restaurant. According to the press release, the Department of Homeland Security did not employ the convicted felon. Levins was arrested on similar charges in Alachua County a month ago. He was booked into the St. Johns County Jail and released Sunday evening after posting a $7,500 bond.
