An Ocala United Parcel Service employee was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand theft after police said he attempted to sell stolen merchandise on Facebook Marketplace.
The employee, 33-year-old Jose Flores Franco, was caught trying to sell around $12,000 worth of electronics and jewelry he stole from UPS packages, according to an arrest report by the Ocala Police Department.
One of the victims found some of the missing items on Flores Franco’s wife’s Facebook account. He was able to match the serial numbers of the items on the listings to the missing UPS items and reported them to the police.
According to the arrest report, Flores Franco was found to have stolen thousands of dollars worth of Apple and Android products and Pandora jewelry. The electronics included iPhones, smartwatches and tablets. They were all found in their original packaging.
Flores Franco was charged with grand theft of more than $10,000 and dealing in stolen property. He was transported to the Marion County Jail.
