American Idol Winner Lee DeWyze will be at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Monday night singing a concert to benefit Backpack Club, Inc. The organization fills backpacks with food and delivers them to needy children. President Stephanie Covey says donations are much appreciated.
“This money will allow us to expand the program. We have requests every few days to help more children, there are so many more children in need that really aren’t able to continue on with school and aren’t able to keep up with their attendance because they just don’t have this nutrition,” she says.
The free concert begins at 7 p.m. Monday evening as part of a weeklong celebration hosted by the Inter-Residence Hall Association. Canned food donations are encouraged.
