Florida Farmers Grow Hops Plants For Craft Beers

The demand for craft beer is at an all-time high, and Florida farmers are jumping into the business.

By growing hops crops, plants that are heavily used in the making of craft beers with distinct flavors, Florida farmers can sell them to local brewers and make a profit out of this trend.

“What we are seeing right now is actually the largest amount of breweries open in the U.S. in history,” UF professor and researcher Brian Pearson said.

The Florida Hops Consortium will be hosting a Field Day for commercial hop growers, producers and breweries at the Mid-Florida Research and Education Center in Apopka September 27.
