ORLANDO — The University of Central Florida says a hacker has gained access to 63,000 Social Security numbers belonging to former and current students and workers.
UCF President John Hitt said Thursday in an online letter that school officials discovered the breach in the university's network last month.
The school has launched an investigation aided by a national digital forensics firm.
School officials say the breach didn't include credit card information, financial information or medical records.
Hitt says he has authorized a review of the school's online systems to determine how it can be improved following the breach.
UCF officials say they are notifying potential victims by letter and offering them one year of free credit monitoring and identity protection services.
