The City of Alachua is warming up to hit one out of the park. A contract signing today will officially bring the Babe Ruth softball World Series back to the city for the second time. Assistant to the City Manager Adam Boukari says this summer's tournament will keep the city growing on track.
Alachua hosted the softball tournament in the summer of 2010 and the Babe Ruth baseball tournament in 1992. Boukari says restaurants, hotels and local attractions always benefit when there are visitors, although there is still a hefty price tag.
The tournament has grown this year, now bringing 20 teams to the area. Boukari says the city has made some adjustments from the last time it hosted the tournament, so now everyone is excited and ready for a great week at the ball park.
