A three-car collision on Southwest 20 th Avenue and Southwest 43 rd Street resulted in a driver being rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

When police arrived on the scene, the vehicle at the front of the collision -- described as an SUV -- had left the accident site.

“Any vehicle leaving the scene is going to be considered a hit and run,” said Gainesville Police Department Sgt. Joseph Castor.

The original call to the police was made at 3:54 p.m. and was described as a hit-and-run crash with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the call notes.

The driver of the second vehicle hit the back of the SUV ahead of her when it suddenly stopped. She was rushed to the hospital after notifying paramedics she could not feel her arm. Gainesville Fire Rescue detached the doors of her vehicle to extract her and placed her in an ambulance.

The driver of the third car, a Ford Focus, also sustained injuries from the accident. He was taken to the hospital by a loved one to check on his shoulder. His car remained at the scene.

Both he and the woman in the second car were riding alone in their respective vehicles. The driver of the SUV had a passenger, witnesses said.
