Traffic on 13th street northbound at Archer was closed temporarily Sunday evening after an 18-wheeler trailer touched the 13th street pedestrian bridge and fell on its side.
Gainesville Police Department officers on scene said the truck was being hauled in two parts after being in an accident days ago. The trailer's bent shape from the accident caused it to be slightly taller than normal. Because of the unusual height, the trailer touched the bridge as the tow truck passed beneath.
There were no reported injuries.
Traffic had to be closed until the Florida Department of Transportation checked the bridge to make sure it was safe.
As of 10 pm, the Florida Department of Transportation had deemed the bridge safe and 13th street north was being reopened, according to the Gainesville Police Department's Twitter page.
