Larry Whitehead Arrested In S.C., Wanted For Gainesville Murder Charge

U.S. marshals captured Larry Whitehead Jr. Sunday morning and charged him with first-degree murder.

Whitehead was wanted for the murder of a Gainesville resident Samuel Hamilton.

According to multiple witnesses, on July 14 Whitehead stormed into Hamilton's apartment in the Southern Pines Complex. The two men got into an argument. Whitehead shot Hamilton in the head and fled. Neighbors claim the fight was over a woman who lives in the area.

The Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office involved the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, and over two months, the marshals tracked Whitehead through New York and Virginia.

Whitehead was booked into the Hampton County Jail in South Carolina with no bond. It is not known when Whitehead will be extradited back to Alachua County.

He is also charged with armed burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
