According to reports filed with the Florida Commission on Ethics, state Sen. Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, is the wealthiest state legislator representing Alachua or Marion County.
Reports filed this week with the commission show Perry has a net worth of just over $8 million. Most of that comes from his equity in Perry roofing.
Other details from the filings show state Sen. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, with a worth of just over $3 million, while state Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, is worth just over $1.4 million.
In the Florida House, state Rep. Robert "Chuck" Brannan, R-Lake City, listed a net worth of $1,777,387, and state Rep. Stan McClain, R-Ocala, listed $341,000.
Three lawmakers do not have their latest filings updated in the state system, and their information reads as "Form receipt not recorded." They are all state representatives: Clovis Watson, D-Alachua, Chuck Clemons, R-Newberry, and Charlie Stone, R-Ocala. They do, however, have last year's forms, which show a net worth then of $1.6 million for Watson, $259,836 for Clemons and $3.6 million for Stone. Although the paperwork was due July 1 to show net worth at the end of 2018, there is an automatic grace period for filing until September 1st.
If reports are not filed by that date, officials face fines.
The disclosures show assets and liabilities for public office holders, and in many cases are very detailed. In Clemons' paperwork, for example, he lists assets of $69,000 in jewelry and firearms. Baxley discloses the actual number of shares he owns of various stocks.
The public can look up the filings of state and local officials, even those who are appointed rather than elected, by visiting the Commission on Ethics website.
