Gainesville City Commission At-Large 2 incumbent Thomas Hawkins got re-elected

The Gainesville City Commission race for an at-large seat went on for hours after the polls closed. Incumbent Thomas Hawkins avoided a runoff Tuesday night after getting more than 52-percent of the vote. Hawkins received more than a thousand votes over Don Marsh, who finished 42-votes shy of becoming Gainesville’s mayor in a runoff last year. Hawkins says his number one goal is to focus on the growth of Gainesville’s transportation system. Hawkins’ re-election ensures at least one of the two incumbents on the ballot will stay in office for another three years. Hawkins received 5,656 votes to Don Marsh’s 4,504 votes, or nearly 42%. Hawkin’s opponent Don Marsh says the end of this election is also the end to his political goals in the future.
